Outdoor Recreation While in Las Vegas
There are many outdoor activities that can be pursued in Las Vegas. The Lake Mead Recreation Area was created in 1936 around Lake Mead and attracts 9 million people each year. The lake and its surround area provides a location for various activities, such as camping, hiking, canoeing, bird watching and water skiing. Boat rentals and fishing are also very popular activities at the lake. Lake Mead is surrounded by campsites which are run by the National Park Service. November through March is the best season for hiking. The Lake Mead Marina has an underwater diving area nearby for those who enjoy scuba diving. In the Valley of Fire State Park there are hiking trails, picnic areas, and two camping areas. Spectacular rock formations provide beautiful scenery for both sightseers and avid photographers alike. For bikers, Red Rock Canyon features an 11 mile bike path to navigate. This should be attempted by bikers who are in good shape. Sightseeing, hiking and mule train riding are available in the Grand Canyon. Airplane and helicopter tours of the canyon can also be arranged. |
